Sue Sylvester – Hand Painted Fabrics

This hand painted product is made with love, care and attention to detail. The stripes are rolled by hand so will not be perfect, however they do have a lovely free feel that provides uniqueness to the designs.

The Sue Sylvester range is colourfast and will not fade in UV light, so with a little care and by following these simple instructions your hand painted items will last you many years.

The majority of Sue Sylvester products are painted on a 50/50 Poly Cotton fabric. This makes them easy to launder. Base paints are ammonia free.

Launder on a standard 40°C coloured wash cycle, using a mild detergent.

Do not tumble dry, allow drying naturally.

Iron on reverse side with a moderate iron.

Treat stains immediately but do not use harsh commercial stain removers (see tips on stain removal).

Placemats: dry flat and do not wring or squeeze, and don’t use pegs as they leave marks.

Tips on removing stains:

Tea/ coffee – soak in lukewarm detergent solution then dab with a little methylated spirit.

White wine – cover with salt to absorb then soak in cold water, wash as normal.

Red wine – do not use salt, it will leave a stain, just dab with paper towel and leave to soak in soda water or white wine vinegar.

Chocolate – rub off with a blunt knife, sponge with warm water then rinse off with cold.

Chewing gum – place the cloth in plastic bag and freeze overnight. Gum should come off.

Fruit juice – rub the stain with salt before washing, rinse in cold water then soak in liquid detergent solution. Wash as normal.

Butter etc. – scrape off as much as possible, sprinkle with talcum powder to absorb, then work in neat washing liquid. Wash immediately.

Never leave stains to dry and do not rub, just blot with paper towels and work from the outside to the centre so the stain does not spread. If the stain is still there after washing, do not iron as the heat may set it. Wash it again and if necessary repeat the treatment.

ANT PRINT AFRICA – Hand Painted and Batik African Textiles

Vibrant hand painted fabrics with Afro/ethnic designs in a full range of colours.

The fabric is 100% cotton and is heat treated in a commercial oven to make it colourfast. Each item is unique because of the nature of hand painting and batik designs on the fabric. They are like works of art but entirely practical as they wash beautifully with no colour loss whatsoever.  Treated with care, they will last a lifetime.

Gentle machine wash on a 40°C wash cycle.

Spin dry is acceptable but is rough on all fabrics, so keep the spin cycle as short as possible.

Hot iron on reverse please, not on painted surface. The fabric is pure cotton and will crease in the wash, so a hot steam iron is recommended.

If the product is continuously left in harsh sunlight, for instance if it is left on a table that gets a lot of sun, it will fade after a year, so try to avoid prolonged periods of harsh sunlight.
